Luka Modric has reached an agreement in principle to extend his contract at Real Madridbeyond its current expiration of June 2021.

The Croatian international will renew his deal for another year – to June 30, 2022 – at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

When this extended contract expires at the end of next season, the midfielder will have completed a decade as a Real Madrid player after joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012.

During his eight and a half years in the Spanish capital, Modric has won four Champions League titles and two LaLiga Santander titles, among other trophies, as well as the Ballon d’Or at individual level.

Modric‘s performances in recent months, plus the leadership and experience he brings to the squad, have convinced the club to keep him around for a while longer.

Even in the last few weeks, the 35-year-old has put in exhibition after exhibition in the middle of the park for Los Blancos, reaffirming his worth to Zinedine Zidane.
