- Pochettino warns Chelsea stars that they need to take responsibility and deliver. Pochettino was unveiled as the new Chelsea boss on Friday.
WHAT HAPPENED? Despite a significant investment in players such as Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Enzo Fernandez during the previous season, Chelsea endured a truly torrid campaign, ultimately culminating in a disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League table. Their underwhelming performance raised serious concerns within the club. In his inaugural press conference as the manager of Chelsea, Pochettino wasted no time in sending a clear message to the players. He emphasized the urgent need for a change in attitude and work ethic, insisting that they must step up their game and start delivering consistent and impactful performances for the betterment of the team as a whole. The manager’s warning was a powerful reminder of the high expectations that accompany playing for a prestigious club like Chelsea, leaving no room for complacency among the squad.
Speaking to reporters, Pochettino said that now is a new start and the players need to show their real quality. He emphasized the need to create a platform for them to feel comfortable and perform, as well as improve. Pochettino acknowledged the difficult circumstances under which these players arrived and expressed that it is a great challenge for Chelsea. He believes in giving them the opportunity to cope with the pressure of playing for the team. Pochettino also highlighted the shared responsibility between the coach and players to understand and adapt to each other’s moods. He stressed the importance of the player’s own motivation and hard work in order to achieve the best results.
Chelsea made three significant signings in the transfer market. Enzo Fernandez was acquired for a record-breaking fee of £106.8 million ($131m). Mudryk joined the team for an expensive price of £89 million ($109m). Additionally, Sterling was signed during the summer for £47.5 million ($57m).
Chelsea’s next move involves a pre-season tour in the USA. They will be facing several teams including Wrexham, Brighton, Newcastle United, Fulham, and Borussia Dortmund.
