Lionel Messi snubbed Barcelona homecoming because of ‘very difficult’ spell at PSG, claims Joan Laporta

Lionel Messi declined an opportunity to return to Barcelona due to the challenges he faced during his time at Paris Saint-Germain, as stated by president Joan Laporta.

  • Barca wanted to bring Messi back. Left PSG to join Inter Miami. Laporta disappointed.

Barcelona made an attempt to bring Messi back to the club from PSG after he expressed his desire to leave. However, Laporta believes that Messi’s negative experience in France, including being booed by fans and facing a suspension for a trip to Saudi Arabia, discouraged him from returning to Camp Nou.

The Barcelona president revealed in an interview with Mundo Deportivo that the player and his father expressed their desire to join Inter Miami. They explained that after facing challenging seasons in Paris, where they were under immense pressure, they believed joining Miami would provide a calmer environment for the player to focus on the national team. However, they also expressed their wish to come to Barcelona and mentioned that a tribute to Messi is being planned by the club.

Lionel Messi, a football legend who achieved great success at Barcelona, is set to join Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS) after arriving in the United States.

Messi is scheduled to make his Inter Miami debut against Cruz Azul in a Leagues Cup clash later this month.
