Man Utd re-sign Jonny Evans! Former youth-team graduate completes shock Old Trafford return and is included in squad to face Lyon

Manchester United has re-signed their former defender Jonny Evans on a short-term contract, which comes as a surprise to many.

The club has announced the re-signing of Evans, who trained with the club’s Under-21s after leaving Leicester City. Evans has impressed the coaches and has been involved in first team sessions as well.

He is now set to be included in United’s squad for their upcoming pre-season friendly against Lyon at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, before flying out to San Diego with the club’s academy on pre-season tour. Defenders Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett are both ruled out of the upcoming trips to Scotland and the USA due to injury.

It is not yet clear whether Jonny Evans will remain with Manchester United on a longer-term basis. After spending 9 seasons at the club from 2006 to 2015, the Northern Irishman made a return to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021. Although his return brought excitement among some fans, there have been speculations about his future with the Red Devils.

Evans, a central defender known for his composure and defensive solidity, has proven his worth both domestically and internationally. Having come through the ranks of the United youth academy, he established himself as a regular in Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad, forming a solid defensive partnership with the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. His performances earned him a move to West Bromwich Albion in 2015.

During his time at West Brom, Evans further showcased his ability, which prompted interest from other Premier League clubs. Everton and Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for the experienced center-back, indicating that there might be a possible exit from Manchester United. However, nothing has been finalized as of now, leaving fans wondering about his ultimate destination.

As United faced Lyon in a pre-season friendly, it marked Evans’ first appearance in a United shirt since his departure in 2015. This outing provided a glimpse of his capabilities to both the coaching staff and the fans. The match could potentially play a pivotal role in determining whether he will secure a permanent spot in the squad or seek a new chapter elsewhere.

Only time will tell where Jonny Evans’ future lies, but with his proven track record, versatility, and experience, he remains an asset to any team he represents. Whether he stays at Old Trafford or moves on to new pastures, Evans will undoubtedly continue to contribute with his defensive prowess and leadership qualities.
