Arsenal and Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus will be unavailable for the opening weeks of the season due to a knee injury. Jesus underwent a procedure to address the issue, which had previously sidelined him for a significant portion of the previous season.
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus will be out for the start of the Premier League season and undergo knee surgery, as confirmed by Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal’s forward, who is from Brazil, recently had a knee procedure, according to Arteta. This news was shared after Arsenal’s victory over Monaco in a penalty shoot-out, where they secured the Emirates Cup.
“Unfortunately, he had a little procedure this morning,” Arteta said. “He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in. It’s not something major but he’s going to be out for a few weeks.
“It’s a big blow because we had him back to his best, especially with the way he played against Barcelona and he was in good condition but unfortunately we lost him.
“We had to look at it and we had to make a decision and the best one is to protect the player and get him back as quick as possible. We decided to do it.”
Arsenal manager explains that Jesus’ recent setback was linked to a previous knee injury he sustained during the World Cup, causing him to miss a significant portion of last season.
“He had some irritation in the knee and we had to get it resolved,” Arteta added.
Arsenal’s 26-year-old player received praise from Arteta after featuring in a pre-season friendly against Barcelona, playing for 79 minutes.
