Chelsea 1-1 Borussia Dortmund: Christopher Nkunku picks up knee injury as Mason Burstow scores late equaliser for Blues

In Chelsea’s final pre-season friendly, a report reveals that Christopher Nkunku was withdrawn after only 20 minutes. Marius Wolf managed to score with 10 minutes remaining, but Mason Burstow’s late header resulted in a draw.

Mauricio Pochettino confirms that Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku suffered a knee injury in their pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Christopher Nkunku, a £52m signing from RB Leipzig, was unfortunately forced off the pitch after only 20 minutes at Soldier Field. This occurred despite his impressive performance during the club’s tour of the USA.

There was a setback for the 25-year-old player, requiring further assessment by Chelsea’s medical staff. The playing surface was not considered responsible for the incident by Pochettino.

“The doctors are checking him and I hope it is not a big issue. He fell in the action which was maybe a penalty and he feels something in his knee but we hope it is nothing big,” said Pochettino.

“We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him.

“We took some risks because the pitch is not perfect because the facilities are used for a different sport. We won’t blame the pitch for the injury though. For me, it was bad luck.”
