Axel Disasi has signed a six-year deal with Chelsea. Chelsea’s co-sporting directors praise Disasi’s quality and international recognition.
Chelsea has completed the signing of Axel Disasi from Monaco for a transfer fee of £38.8m. The French defender has put pen to paper on a six-year contract with the club.
Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, said: “Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage.
“He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea.
“We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new team-mates in the days ahead.”
Disasi, who had been linked with Manchester United and Newcastle in this transfer window, had two years left on his Monaco contract.
Monaco recently signed Mohammed Salisu from Southampton as a replacement before finalizing their move for Disasi.
Chelsea may be looking to sign a new center-back due to Wesley Fofana’s ACL injury, according to Pochettino.
Fofana underwent knee surgery and his return to the field this season is hopeful, according to Pochettino.
There are now multiple options for Pochettino to choose from at centre-back, including Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Disasi.
Benoit Badiashile, formerly of Monaco, is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained towards the end of the previous season.
Disasi, a football player, joined Monaco in 2020 after playing for Reims for four years. He also represented France in the 2022 World Cup, playing in three matches.
Chelsea has made six signings this summer, including the 25-year-old player.
