Chelsea transfer news: Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez joins from Brighton in £25m deal

Chelsea has signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton for a fee of £25m, which includes add-ons and a sell-on clause. The 25-year-old goalkeeper will provide competition and cover for Kepa Arrizabalaga. Sanchez has agreed to a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has signed Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for £25m.

Sanchez has signed a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with an inclusive fee that covers add-ons and a sell-on clause.

A 25-year-old goalkeeper from Spain will join the team as backup and competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Robert to Chelsea and he adds further quality to our goalkeeping unit.

“Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country. We are excited to watch him work with Mauricio [Pochettino] and his coaching team during the season ahead.”

Chelsea were in search of reinforcements for their goalkeeping position following the departure of Edouard Mendy to Al-Ahli.

Sanchez, a Spanish player with two caps, started his career at Brighton and played in 90 matches for the club.

Sanchez lost his place as the preferred goalkeeper under Roberto De Zerbi last season, with Jason Steele taking over the position.

Sanchez was excluded from Brighton’s squad multiple times towards the end of last season and did not join the team on their pre-season tour.

Sanchez will reunite with his former goalkeeping coach at Brighton, Ben Roberts, who is also at Chelsea.

Paris Saint-Germain’s goalkeeper, Emilio Nsue, is the latest addition to the Blues squad, making him their seventh signing this summer.
