Josko Gvardiol: Man City complete £77.6m signing of RB Leipzig and Croatia defender

Man City has successfully secured the signing of Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, beating out competition from Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid. Gvardiol completed his medical examination on Friday and has now signed a five-year contract with the current English and European champions.

Manchester City has secured the acquisition of Josko Gvardiol, a defender from RB Leipzig, in a substantial £77.6m deal.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed the medical of a 21-year-old player, who will be City’s second signing this summer alongside Mateo Kovacic from Croatia.

City has signed Gvardiol on a five-year deal after their successful season.

Gvardiol is City’s second summer signing, joining Kovacic. He adds to Guardiola’s options at centre-back, alongside Stones, Dias, Akanji, Ake, and Laporte.

“I have always dreamed of one day playing in England and to be doing so now with Manchester City – after the season they have just had – is a real honour for me,” he told the club’s official website. “Anyone who saw Manchester City play last season knows they are the best team in the world. To win the Treble says everything you need to know about the quality this team has. To be joining City is something very special for me and my family.

Manchester City will play against Arsenal in the Community Shield before starting their Premier League campaign against Burnley on August 11th.
