Paris Saint-Germain is close to securing the signing of Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos from Benfica, with a reported transfer fee of €80 million. This potential acquisition comes as PSG prepares for a potential departure of their star forward, Kylian Mbappe, who has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, particularly with rumored interest from Real Madrid.
The Parisian club seems to be taking proactive steps in case Mbappe’s transfer materializes. PSG is reportedly prepared to pay €80 million for the services of Goncalo Ramos, a young and talented striker who has been making waves at Benfica. The 22-year-old Portuguese talent has been a standout performer in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess and technical skills.
While the potential signing of Ramos indicates PSG’s willingness to invest in future talent, it also reflects the uncertain future of Kylian Mbappe. The French striker’s contract with PSG is set to expire in 2022, and negotiations for a contract extension have so far been unsuccessful. This has fueled speculation that Mbappe may seek a move away from the French capital, with Real Madrid often touted as his most likely destination.
To further strengthen their squad, PSG has also agreed to sign Goncalo Ramos on a season-long loan, with an obligation to buy him in 2024. The experienced Spanish central defender, who recently parted ways with Real Madrid after a distinguished career, will bring leadership, defensive solidity, and a winning mentality to the Parisian side. This move is seen as an opportunity for PSG to bolster their defense and add further depth to their squad.
The deal for Goncalo Ramos includes a fixed fee of €65 million, with an additional €15 million in potential add-ons. PSG’s decision to secure Ramos on a loan initially, followed by a permanent transfer, is partially influenced by their Financial Fair Play concerns. By spreading the payment over multiple years, PSG can manage their finances while still acquiring a highly regarded player.
Goncalo Ramos is expected to undergo a medical examination next week before finalizing his move to PSG.
