Courtois, the Belgium international, sustained a left knee injury during training and will undergo surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament tear.
De Gea could potentially replace the 31-year-old goalkeeper who has made over 200 appearances for the club since joining from Chelsea in 2018.
De Gea, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, recently left the team after 12 seasons and 545 appearances, making him the goalkeeper with the most appearances in the club’s history.
The Spaniard broke Peter Schmeichel’s United record for clean sheets last season, accumulating a total of 190 shut-outs in all competitions.
The 32-year-old achieved success in Manchester, winning five major trophies including the Premier League in 2013 and the Europa League in 2017.
