Brighton signed Moises Caicedo for £4.5m in 2021. He is now set to join Liverpool for a fee worth £111m, with a medical scheduled for Friday. The deal will also include a sell-on clause.
Liverpool have agreed a British-record transfer fee with Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo, but Chelsea also have hopes of making their own deal.
A transfer fee of £111m has been agreed, with a sell-on clause included in the deal.
Caicedo was expected to travel to Liverpool for a medical on Friday but remains in London.
Chelsea is still interested in signing Caicedo despite not making an improved bid yet. They were reportedly willing to offer £100m for the Ecuador international.
Brighton set a deadline for bids, and will go with the highest bidder if their valuation is met.
Liverpool has submitted a proposal for the transfer of Caicedo to Anfield after the player expressed his interest in moving.
“The fee with the club is agreed,” confirmed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his Friday press conference. “We will see what that means. We aren’t a club with endless resources and we didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer. Then it happened.”
Liverpool and Brighton were in talks about a potential deal, in case Chelsea couldn’t agree on the financial parameters.
Liverpool have been informed that they were the highest bidders for Caicedo, with personal terms agreed. The transfer process is now underway.
Brighton signed Caicedo for £4.5m from Independiente del Valle in 2021, despite interest from Bayern Munich who were willing to pay £90m.
