Kevin De Bruyne: Man City midfielder to miss up to four months and could require hamstring surgery

Kevin De Bruyne’s recurring hamstring injury could keep him out of action for up to four months, according to Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola. The midfielder was substituted just 23 minutes into a recent match against Burnley after experiencing the same issue that forced him off during last season’s Champions League final.

Kevin De Bruyne is facing a few months out due to a hamstring injury, according to Pep Guardiola. Manchester City will decide whether he needs surgery or not.

A midfielder, aged 32, got injured during the Champions League final and didn’t play in the pre-season.

Kevin De Bruyne made his return to the Manchester City squad as a substitute in the Community Shield match against Arsenal. He then went on to captain the team in their Premier League opener against Burnley.

Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgium playmaker, was substituted after just 23 minutes at Turf Moor due to an injury.

Guardiola has confirmed that a hamstring injury will sideline the player for a few weeks. However, the injury is more severe than initially thought, and there may be a need for surgery.

“It’s a serious injury,” the City boss said in his press conference ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup game against Sevilla.

“We have to decide surgery or not surgery but a few months out.”

The decision on surgery will be taken in the coming days and could see him miss “three or four months”, Guardiola added.

Guardiola attributed De Bruyne’s aggravated hamstring problems to the shortened pre-season schedule after Manchester City’s treble-winning campaign.

“Give me 25 days of preparation, and you will not be injured. Of course, we could say ‘don’t play’. I spoke to the doctors and the physios with him, and he said he felt good. But unfortunately, it happened.”

City’s player missed most of their pre-season, but recently made a comeback by coming off the bench and assisting in a goal during their Community Shield match against Arsenal.

“Maybe [we shouldn’t have taken a chance to start him],” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the win at Burnley.

“But what happens in 15 minutes can be an injury in 60, 65, 70 when the fatigue comes in the legs, but we have an injury in 15 minutes.”

When asked if City could provide cover for De Bruyne by seeking reinforcements, Guardiola added: “We will see.

“After what happened, we’ve not talked to [director of football] Txiki (Begiristain) but we will see the chances and the possibilities.”
