Romeo Lavia: Chelsea agree £58m deal with Southampton for Belgian midfielder

Romeo Lavia is a highly sought-after player, with both Liverpool and Chelsea vying for his signature. While Liverpool initially had a deal in place, Chelsea has now matched the terms with Southampton. Lavia has expressed his desire to join Chelsea. Furthermore, in another signing, Chelsea has successfully beat Liverpool to secure Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign midfielder Romeo Lavia for a fee of £58m. The deal includes an initial payment of £53m with an additional £5m in potential add-ons. Lavia has been granted permission to proceed with a medical examination at Chelsea.

Chelsea and Lavia are expected to come to a mutual agreement without any issues.

Liverpool had initially agreed to a £60m deal with Southampton for Lavia, but the player has expressed his desire to join Chelsea instead.

Liverpool missed out on signing Moises Caicedo to Chelsea. The Blues secured the player from Brighton for a British record fee of £115m, despite Liverpool having their offer of £111m accepted.

Chelsea’s pursuit of two midfielders suffered a setback when talks with Leeds United for the signing of Tyler Adams fell through due to failure to reach an agreement.

Chelsea and Liverpool have made offers for 19-year-old Lavia, but Southampton is holding firm on their £50m valuation.

Lavia, who joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer, has four years remaining on his contract. However, with Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League last season, it is anticipated that he will leave the club.

Southampton’s Belgium international player didn’t participate in the recent matches, including the Carabao Cup defeat and a draw with Norwich.
