Manchester United will be looking for defensive reinforcements following Luke Shaw’s recent injury. Shaw, who has been in exceptional form this season, suffered a more serious injury than initially thought, leaving Eeik ten Hag with a significant gap to fill in the left-back position.
With Shaw sidelined, the club’s coaching staff has been working tirelessly to identify potential replacements. One of the standout names on their radar is Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham. The Spanish left-back enjoyed a successful loan spell at Atletico Madrid last season and has showcased his ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.
However, Reguilon isn’t the only option being considered by Manchester United. Marc Cucurella, who plays for Chelsea, is another potential target. Known for his versatility, Cucurella has experience playing in various positions across the backline and midfield, making him an attractive prospect for ten Hag’s side.
In the absence of Shaw, Erik ten Hag has had to make some adjustments to his starting lineup. Both Tyrell Malacia and Brandon Williams are out, leaving the manager with limited options on the left-hand side of defense. As a result, Diogo Dalot, who is usually deployed as a right-back, filled in at left-back during the recent match against Nottingham Forest.
While the makeshift solution provided a temporary fix, United’s coaching staff is fully aware that a long-term replacement needs to be secured. Speaking about the situation, manager Erik ten Hag acknowledged the possibility of United signing a left-back. He stated, “It can be (that United sign a left-back). I think we always have to anticipate on situations. If there are opportunities then yes, but it has to be the right player otherwise we have to deal with the current squad. We went through the scenarios before the season and if it happened, we have the solution.”
With the next big match against Arsenal fast approaching, Solskjaer and his team are eager to finalize the transfer business and ensure they have a solid defensive line in place. Time is of the essence as they look to find the right player who can seamlessly fit into the squad and contribute from the get-go. As Manchester United navigates this challenging period, all eyes will be on the transfer front to see if they can secure a suitable replacement for the influential Luke Shaw.
