Eden Hazard set to retire from football despite approaches from three Ligue 1 clubs and MLS

Eden Hazard, the former Real Madrid player, is currently a free agent. Reports suggest that he is considering retirement after rejecting offers from MLS and Ligue 1.

The 32-year-old Belgian forward saw a forgettable four-year stint at Santiago Bernabeu brought to a close at the end of the 2022-23 campaign when he was released from the final year of his contract. Hazard has been without a club ever since, despite attracting plenty of interest.

Teams from Saudi Arabia and America, who were keen on Hazard prior to seeing him become a free agent, have reportedly asked questions of his availability. Three sides from France – Nice, Marseille, and Lille – are also keen, while there have been approaches from leading outfits in Turkey.

Hazard has knocked all of that interest back, with FootMercato claiming that he may decide to hang up his boots for good. As he is enjoying time with his family, there is no desire on the Belgian’s part to rush into a decision regarding his future.

Hazard was considered to be one of the best players on the planet when leaving Premier League giants Chelsea for Madrid in 2019. His move to the Spanish capital was accompanied by high expectations and excitement, as he was expected to make a seamless transition and enhance the already formidable Real Madrid squad.

Unfortunately, Hazard struggled to find his best form at Real Madrid. Injuries plagued his time at the club, limiting his playing time and disrupting his ability to establish consistency. The Belgian forward endured a frustrating spell of setbacks, preventing him from showcasing the skills that captured the footballing world’s attention during his time in the English Premier League.

Despite his struggles, Hazard did have some memorable moments in a Real Madrid jersey. He played a vital role in helping the team secure the 2019-20 La Liga title, contributing with crucial goals and assists. However, these glimpses of brilliance were too infrequent, leaving many fans and pundits unsatisfied with his overall impact.

As time went on, Hazard’s relationship with the club and its supporters became strained. Criticism intensified as his performances failed to justify the significant financial investment made by Real Madrid. Ultimately, the decision was made to part ways, allowing Hazard to seek new opportunities elsewhere.

Now, with Hazard in the midst of a career crossroads, the footballing world waits with bated breath to see what his next move will be. Will he choose to continue his professional career with a new club, eager to rediscover his form and prove his doubters wrong? Or will he decide to retire from the sport altogether, opting to focus on different aspects of life?
