Romelu Lukaku has been loaned out by Chelsea to Roma. Lukaku had previously been on loan at Inter Milan. He originally joined Chelsea from Inter for a fee of £97.5m in 2021. Roma will now cover Lukaku’s wages after he agreed to a salary cut at Chelsea.
Romelu Lukaku has joined Roma from Chelsea on a season-long loan with a fee of £7m to £8m based on performance.
Roma will subsidize Lukaku’s wages by implementing a salary reduction for the duration of his contract with Chelsea.
The contract includes a release clause valued at around £38m.
Roma has signed Lukaku, who will reunite with his former Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho. Mourinho led Roma to the Europa League final in the previous season.
Roma officials recently met with Chelsea in London to discuss the possibility of bringing Lukaku to the Italian capital for the season.
Lukaku, the Belgian footballer, was loaned to Inter Milan last season due to his strained relationship with Chelsea.
The striker was eager to return to Italy and chose Rome due to his desire to work with Mourinho once more.
Juventus and Inter both expressed interest in signing Chelsea’s Lukaku during the summer transfer window.
Al Hilal, a Saudi side, showed interest in signing the 30-year-old player who recently joined Chelsea from Inter for a transfer fee of £97.5m in August 2021.
