Tottenham has completed the signing of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest for a transfer fee of £47.5m on Deadline Day. The Welsh international has signed a six-year contract with the club and will wear the number 22 shirt.
The 22-year-old’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur is a record-breaking sale for Nottingham Forest, with a 10% sell-on clause in the deal.
Tottenham sought to replace departing striker Harry Kane with Johnson, their top target for a new forward this summer.
Spurs’ head coach, Ange Postecoglou, considers Johnson’s profile to be a perfect fit for their style of play.
Brentford and Chelsea were interested in Johnson, but Chelsea’s interest has declined recently.
Spurs considered Barcelona’s Ansu Fati and Johan Bakayoko before signing Johnson.
Forest resisted selling Johnson and insisted on receiving a bid close to their desired £50m asking price.
The deal for the Spurs player was completed before the deadline on Friday afternoon, after they agreed on a fee.
Tottenham has made their ninth summer signing with the addition of a graduate from the Forest academy, bringing their total spending to £229m.
Johnson was a key player for Forest, contributing eight goals and three assists to help the club stay in the Premier League.
