US Open: Caroline Wozniacki continues US Open run while Iga Swiatek serves up another bagel

Iga Swiatek effortlessly advances to the US Open fourth round, displaying her defending champion form.

In an exciting match at the US Open, Caroline Wozniacki showed her resilience by coming back from a set down to defeat Jennifer Brady. Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek, the defending champion, displayed her dominance by serving up her 20th bagel of the year, defeating her “best friend” Kaja Juvan in a thrilling match.

The 33-year-old two-time finalist displayed her remarkable comeback as she fought back from dropping a set to secure a 4-6 6-3 6-1 victory over American Brady, advancing to the last 16.

“As a competitor and an athlete you always want to win and you have to believe in yourself, but playing here on Arthur Ashe again is a dream come true,” said Wozniacki, who is back having retired from the game more than three years ago and has had two children.

“When I retired three years ago and having had two kids, I thought I’d just be here watching. What an honour this is.”

Caroline Wozniacki will face Coco Gauff in the next match after Gauff’s impressive comeback victory over Elise Mertens.

Coco Gauff, the 19-year-old tennis player, has been on a winning streak, triumphing in tournaments in Washington and Cincinnati. She has an impressive record of winning nine times at Grand Slam events after initially losing the first set. Additionally, she has won 14 out of her last 15 matches.

In the US Open quarter-final match, Gauff and Wozniacki will face each other for the first time.

“It’s a match-up I never thought I would have to play. When she retired I remember I might have said in an interview to ‘I wish I would have played her’ so that wish came true so I’m really excited,” said Gauff. “Is it really a battle of generations? She’s still fit and going strong.”
