Antony, a player for Man Utd, has been accused of multiple instances of assault by his former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin. New allegations have surfaced in Brazil, but Antony denies them. The Greater Manchester Police are investigating the claims.
Antony, Manchester United’s forward, is facing serious allegations of domestic abuse.
The 23-year-old Brazilian player was dropped from the national team due to allegations of physical aggression towards his former girlfriend.
Antony, who has denied the claims, made 31 appearances since Cavallin’s complaint to Greater Manchester Police in January.
“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the police are conducting enquiries,” said a club statement. “Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments.
“As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”
The Brazilian media outlet UOL recently reported on new allegations made by Gabriela Cavallin.
Antony released a statement on Instagram in June denying the accusations of domestic violence made against him by Ms Cavallin.
Antony expressed confidence in ongoing police investigations to uncover the truth about his innocence amid new claims.
Antony has released a second denial on social media regarding an initial statement made on June 28.
The statement reads: “I can say with confidence that accusations are false and that the evidence already produced show that I am innocent of the accusations made.
“My relationship with Ms Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offences from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression.
“I trust that the ongoing police investigations will demonstrate the truth about my innocence.”
The Brazilian FA has announced that Antony has been replaced by Gabriel Jesus in the squad for September’s World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
On Tuesday morning, Greater Manchester Police released a statement that said: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of the allegations made and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report. We will not be commenting any further at this time.”
