Spain’s Jenni Hermoso files legal complaint over Luis Rubiales kiss after Women’s World Cup final

Luis Rubiales, the Spanish FA chief, has been suspended by FIFA for his behavior but refused to resign. It was reported that he kissed Jenni Hermoso, a player, on the lips after Spain’s Women’s World Cup final win over England. Additionally, there has been fallout from this incident as Jorge Vilda was sacked as Spain’s women’s coach.

Jenni Hermoso has lodged a complaint regarding the controversial post-Women’s World Cup final kiss by the now-suspended Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales.

A testimony was given by Hermoso on Tuesday and the complaint will be processed promptly, as stated by the prosecutor.

Rubiales could face criminal charges and is under investigation by Spain’s top sport court and FIFA.

Rubiales kissed Hermoso during the awards ceremony after Spain’s victory over England in Sydney.

Hermoso expressed her discomfort and stated that she did not want to be kissed. She described feeling vulnerable and like a victim of an aggression.

In her statement, Hermoso mentioned feeling pressured by the federation to support Rubiales after the incident.

The president, Rubiales, defended the kiss as a spontaneous, mutual, euphoric, and consensual act.

The Spanish government, players’ unions, players, and many citizens have shown support for Hermoso. However, Rubiales has refused to resign.

FIFA suspended Rubiales on August 27 after he made a defiant speech, claiming to be a victim of a “witch hunt” by “false feminists.”
