Cristiano Ronaldo from Al-Nassr is planning to sue Juventus for not paying his wages during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cristiano Ronaldo is taking legal action against Juventus for not paying him the €20 million that he is owed, as reported by Italian publication Gazzetta.
This amount was allegedly deferred during the pandemic, with an agreement that it would be paid once Juventus had overcome the worst of the financial implications of the period. However, it is reported that Ronaldo has still not been paid the owed amount.
The 38-year-old athlete signed a four-year contract with Juve when he joined the Italian giants back in the summer of 2018. He then made a switch back to Manchester United before departing for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in January of this year.
It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo’s pursuit will land the Serie A side in further trouble. His former Juventus teammate, Leandro Bonucci, is also said to be considering legal action against the club for a separate matter. These situations highlight some challenges that professional players face regarding remuneration and contracts in the world of football. It is crucial that commitments are respected and clubs fulfill their contractual obligations to maintain integrity and trust in the sport. Only then can a fair and equitable environment be guaranteed for players and sporting institutions.
