Reports: Jarred Vanderbilt signs extension with Lakers

The 24 year old player was important for the Los Angeles team’s journey to the 2023 Western Conference Finals.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed Jarred Vanderbilt to a four-year, $48 million contract extension, according to a source.

The Lakers have not officially announced the long-term deal with their defensive specialist. The contract includes a player option in the fourth year.

The Lakers got Vanderbilt from Utah in February, and he became an important player during their strong run to the Western Conference finals.

During the regular season, Vanderbilt scored an average of 7.2 points and grabbed 6.7 rebounds per game. He also played a key defensive role by frequently guarding the opposing team’s best scorer. Vanderbilt started in 24 games and in 13 out of 15 playoff games for the Lakers.

Orlando drafted Vanderbilt in 2018, and he started playing in the NBA with the Denver team. Later, he joined Minnesota for three seasons before being acquired by the Jazz last summer.

The Lakers had a great season, going 18-8 and winning two playoff rounds. Their roster got better with some trade deadline moves, and the team’s general manager, Rob Pelinka, has been working to strengthen their core around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Los Angeles has extended the contracts of Vanderbilt, Davis, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura, and has acquired Jaxson Hayes, Taurean Prince, Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and Christian Wood.
