In a recent match between Man City and Nottingham Forest at the Etihad, Rodri was given a red card for getting into an argument with Morgan Gibbs-White. As a result, the Spanish player will be unavailable for the upcoming games against Newcastle in the EFL Cup on September 27, as well as the matches against Wolves on September 30 and Arsenal on October 8 in the Premier League.
Rodri will not play in Manchester City’s next Premier League game against Arsenal. He got a red card for being violent against Nottingham Forest. He raised his hands and pushed Morgan Gibbs-White after an argument near the corner flag.
“He pushed him in the neck,” said former Premier League referee Mike Dean as he analysed the incident on Soccer Saturday.
Anthony Taylor sent off Rodri but the VAR review confirmed the decision. Manchester City has the option to appeal, but it seems unlikely given Pep Guardiola’s post-match comments.
“Hopefully, Rodri will learn,” said the City manager, who revealed the midfielder had apologised for his actions. “Rodri has to control himself and his emotion. That is what he has to do.
“I can get a yellow card, Rodri cannot get a yellow card because they are inside the pitch.
“I said at half-time, ‘Be careful, guys. Be careful.’ Unfortunately, we could not do it. Rodri could not do it.”
Asked if Rodri had let him down, Guardiola replied: “Yeah. I don’t like to play with 10 because it is our fault.”
Rodri will not be able to play in City’s upcoming Carabao Cup game against Newcastle on Wednesday, as well as in the Premier League matches against Wolves on Saturday and Arsenal on Sunday October 8.
In the game, Manchester City won 2-0 with goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland in the first 15 minutes.
