Paris Saint-Germain, commonly known as PSG, are facing some challenging times with their key players being sidelined due to injuries. Recently, the club announced that Nuno Mendes, their talented left-back, will undergo surgery for a hamstring injury that he suffered back in July. This unfortunate turn of events means that Mendes will be out of action for approximately four months.
Mendes, only 21 years old, joined PSG permanently from Sporting Lisbon in 2022 after a successful loan spell. He quickly became an integral part of the team and was named PSG’s Young Player of the Year in the 2022-2023 season. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by manager Luis Enrique, as Mendes provided both defensive solidity and attacking threat down the left flank.
To make matters worse, PSG also had to cope with the ankle injury of their star forward, Kylian Mbappe. Thankfully, Mbappe’s injury is not considered serious and he is expected to return to action soon. However, his brief absence adds to the challenges faced by the team.
With Mendes now out of action, PSG’s options at left-back are limited. The club recently allowed Juan Bernat to join Benfica on loan, leaving Lucas Hernandez as the only recognized left-back in the squad. Manager Luis Enrique will need to find alternative solutions in Mendes’ absence, especially with important upcoming fixtures on the horizon.
On Saturday, PSG is set to face Clermont Foot in a crucial Ligue 1 encounter. This match will test their ability to cope without Mendes’ presence in defense. Following their domestic clash, PSG will shift their focus to the Champions League, where they are scheduled to face Newcastle United on October 4. These matches will undoubtedly prove challenging, but with their squad depth and talent, PSG will strive to achieve positive results.
Once Mendes completes his surgery, his road to recovery will begin with a rehabilitation process. The aim will be to ensure he returns to full fitness as soon as possible and contributes to the team’s ambitions. Coach Luis Enrique and the entire PSG staff will undoubtedly provide the necessary support and guidance to aid Mendes’ recovery journey.
