Saka may not play in Arsenal’s next match against Man City on Sunday because he got injured during the game against Lens on Tuesday.
Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, expressed concern about Bukayo Saka’s injury before their upcoming Premier League game against Manchester City.
Saka got injured during Arsenal’s match against Lens in the Champions League Group B.
In the 34th minute, the 22-year-old was substituted by Fabio Vieira, after assisting Gabriel Jesus for the opening goal. This achievement makes him the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to have five goals and five assists this season.
When asked about the injury by Norway’s TV 2 Sport, Arteta replied: “It doesn’t look good.”
Arteta added: “He tried to backheel a ball in the first half. He felt something. It was muscular. He was uncomfortable and we had to take him off.
“We don’t know anything more than that. It was big enough not to allow him to play the rest of the game and that is a worry for us.”
Arteta was then asked if Saka would be available to face City, and he replied: “I haven’t a clue. I don’t know”.
Saka has been a constant presence for Arsenal in the Premier League, starting in their last 87 consecutive games. This is a club record that goes back to May 2021.
He hurt his foot during a game and had to leave early. However, he recovered in time to play again on Tuesday night.
When asked if he had any regrets in picking Saka against Lens, Arteta said: “No. It was a knock that he had the other day and he was perfectly fine. It was a backheel, an action that can produce that kind of injury. Let’s see what the extent of it is and afterwards it’s too late.
“The last few were more knocks than anything else. He hasn’t really missed games. We gave him a break against Brentford last week and that was all.”
The fitness of the England player will be important for Sunday’s match between the two teams who competed for the Premier League title last season.
Manchester City, who won the league three times in a row, easily defeated Arsenal 4-1 in their last match at the Etihad Stadium in April.
Unfortunately, Pep Guardiola’s team will be missing Rodri for the game against Arsenal. He received a red card in the match against Nottingham Forest and is serving a three-match suspension.
