Harden didn’t attend the team’s Media Day and the first day of camp.
James Harden came back to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday. He had been unhappy and wanted to be traded, but instead he decided to rejoin his teammates and take part in training camp.
The basketball player, who has been selected for the All-Star game 10 times, came to practice at the Colorado State campus despite having a bad relationship with the management of the Sixers team. He didn’t attend the team’s media day in New Jersey on Monday and also missed the first day of training camp in Colorado on Tuesday.
Harden chose to exercise his contract option, worth $35.6 million, for this season. He expected the team to trade him but was disappointed when it didn’t happen. He expressed his frustration at a promotional event in China, where he called the team’s president a liar.
The 76ers are currently practicing at Moby Arena, home of the Rams’ basketball team. They even visited Boulder for dinner and a chat with Coach Deion Sanders from the Colorado Buffaloes football team.
Sanders talked about different subjects such as pressure, unity, living in the present moment, and his experience going from a historically Black college or university in Jackson State to a struggling program at Colorado that had just finished a 1-11 season. The Buffaloes (3-2) continue to be a hot topic in college football.
The owner of the Sixers, David Adelman, mentioned that the new coach, Nick Nurse, wanted to train at a higher altitude during their trip to Colorado. Last June, the Nuggets won their first-ever NBA championship by defeating Miami in five games.
“The road to a championship for the NBA goes through Denver,” Adelman said shortly after the team met Sanders. “We’re going to get used to it because you’ll see us here in June.”
Nurse is replacing Doc Rivers, who didn’t guide the Sixers beyond the second round of the playoffs.
The team has the current NBA MVP, Embiid. They added guard Patrick Beverley, center Mo Bamba, and veteran Danny Green to strengthen the roster.
“You added some pieces. And you add some pieces that you feel should be the difference,” Sanders said to the Sixers at dinner. “Straight up, you guys really look at each other and hold each other accountable and you have to realize, how bad do you really want it? What are you willing to do for it? What are you willing to sacrifice for it, and how far are you willing to go for it? How hard are you willing to work for it?
“You all are among the best in the business, right? But you’ve got to put it together.”
