Ryder Cup’s Marco Simone Golf and Country Club hit by large fire | Investigation underway

A temporary building at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club caught fire. The cause is unknown, and thankfully, no one was hurt. Around 271,191 people attended the Ryder Cup over six days.

A fire occurred at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club after hosting the Ryder Cup. An investigation is now underway.

A fire broke out at the golf course, causing smoke to rise from one of the buildings. A spokesperson for Ryder Cup Europe confirmed that a temporary structure used for hospitality was the source of the fire.

No one was hurt in an incident near the first fairway of the golf course in Rome.

Last weekend, Europe won the Ryder Cup, beating the United States with a score of 16.5-11.5. The event was attended by thousands of people.

“A fire was reported in one of the temporary hospitality structures to the right of the first fairway at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club earlier this afternoon,” said the spokesperson.

“Local fire crews were called to the scene at 5.07pm local time and quickly brought the blaze under control.

“Nobody was injured in the incident and the fire did not spread beyond the hospitality structure. There was no damage to the golf course or any other structure.

“The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.”

Firefighters battled the massive fire at the club in Guidonia, with thick smoke billowing from the building.

The fire’s cause is unknown, and no one was hurt. The Italian Golf Federation reported that 271,191 people attended the event during the six days it was open to spectators.

Residents may need to leave their homes because the air is unbreathable. Roads leading to the golf club are closed, as reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Marco Simone Golf and Country Club was designed by David Mezzacane and Jim Fazio and opened in 1989.

The golf course underwent a complete renovation between 2018 and 2020. The redesign was carried out by a team led by Dave Sampson from European Golf Design, in collaboration with Tom Fazio II, an esteemed American architect and son of Jim Fazio, who was also involved in the original layout.

The renovation changed the course layout for the Ryder Cup. The course has lots of hills and is designed for match play. You can book tee times on the course’s website.
