Bukayo Saka will not play in England’s upcoming matches against Italy and Australia because he is still recovering from a hamstring injury. He also missed Arsenal’s recent win against Man City. This injury ended his streak of playing in 87 consecutive Premier League matches.
Bukayo Saka will not play in England’s upcoming matches against Australia and Italy as he has been evaluated by the medical team at St George’s Park.
The 22-year-old joined the national team even though he didn’t play in Arsenal’s recent victory. However, he was assessed by the England medical team and sent back to his club for further recovery.
Gareth Southgate is not expected to call up a replacement to his 25-man squad. He had defended Saka’s inclusion when the squad was announced last Thursday, saying: “There’s another seven days before we play Australia and 10 days before we play Italy.”
Saka got injured in Arsenal’s match against Lens in the Champions League. He had also been forced off in their previous match against Bournemouth.
Arsenal’s recent victory over City moved them up to joint-top of the Premier League with Tottenham. It was notable for the absence of the winger, who had previously made 87 consecutive appearances in the league.
Mikel Arteta, the manager, initially stated he would not join the England team for their upcoming matches. However, he later changed his decision and went to the camp but was eventually released.
“No, he will not make it,” Arteta said. “He has not trained for a single session.”
If England wins against Italy at Wembley next Tuesday, they could qualify for Euro 2024.
