Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in Portugal’s 3-2 victory against Slovakia, securing their qualification for Euro 2024. Ronaldo expressed his satisfaction with his physical condition and stated that he is enjoying his time both with the national team and at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
“I’m enjoying the moment, which is good, I feel good, my body is responding to what I’ve given it over the last few years. I’m happy both in the national team and at the club. I’ve scored a lot of goals and I feel good physically,” Ronaldo told reporters after the Portugal game.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 38, helped Portugal secure a spot in the next European Championship with a victory over Slovakia. The team he leads had a great qualifying phase, winning all seven games.
“On a personal level I’m very happy with what I’ve done. Now we have to keep going, we have a few more games and we have to perfect the machine. The team has been very good and with different systems,” he said.
He added: “Portugal qualified because they played well, they have a good team and an excellent coach (Spaniard Roberto Martinez). It’s no coincidence that we qualified.”
He wants to avoid any injuries or issues, so he can participate in the finals once again and play for the Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo wants to reach 900 goals, after a challenge from Porto president, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who wants him to reach 1,000 goals.
“It’s going to be quite difficult, but it’s about seeing how I’m mentally, my motivation. If, physically, my legs treat me as well as I treat them… We’ll see, these are small stages. Until you reach 1,000, you first have to get to 900. I think I’ll get there,” he said.
The former Real Madrid striker, who has scored 857 goals in his professional career, said he was “confident of reaching 900, but 1,000 goals are a lot of stones to break”.
