England vs Italy: Heightened security at Wembley for Euro Qualifier after terror attack in Brussels

The attack in Brussels caused the football match between Belgium and Sweden to be stopped. Two people from Sweden were killed in the attack. The suspect was shot by the police and taken to the hospital.

There will be more security at Wembley Stadium for England’s match against Italy on Tuesday. This is because of the recent incident in Brussels where two people were killed.

The shootings on Monday led to the cancellation of Belgium’s Euro 2024 Qualifier against Sweden. Fans were kept inside the stadium while armed officers searched for the attacker.

The gunman in Belgium has died after being shot by police and taken to the hospital.

The terror alert in Belgium is at its highest level due to the incident. The government in Brussels is concerned about the possibility of more accomplices.

The Metropolitan Police has implemented a strong plan for policing the upcoming game on Tuesday, ensuring a noticeable police presence to provide reassurance to supporters.

Superintendent Gerry Parker, the match commander for England’s game against Italy, said: “We have been working with our partners, including the FA, in the weeks leading up to this match to ensure those attending the Wembley area enjoy this match.

“Our officers are experienced in dealing with large-scale public order events, and a flexible plan is in place to reduce the likelihood of crime and disorder, and provide a timely response to any emerging incidents.”

Officials were getting ready for tighter security measures as there was criticism towards the FA for not lighting the Wembley arch as a show of support for the Israeli victims of Hamas in the Middle East.

In response to the recent conflict in Israel and Gaza, the FA has decided that England will wear black armbands and hold a minute’s silence during their friendly match against Australia. This gesture is meant to remember the innocent lives lost on both sides of the conflict.

Due to the incidents in Belgium, there will be more police officers and security officials at Wembley Stadium for tonight’s Euro Qualifier.

In memory of the victims of Monday’s attack in Brussels, there will be a moment of silence at all Euro 2024 qualifier matches on Tuesday night, including the match between Belgium and Sweden.

Two Swedish nationals were killed, marking the second terrorist attack in Europe within four days after the murder of a teacher in France last Friday.
