United States GP Qualifying: Charles Leclerc beats Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton to pole as Max Verstappen only sixth

Charles Leclerc took pole position by beating Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen, on the other hand, ended up in sixth place after losing the fastest lap due to a breach of track limits.

Charles Leclerc took pole position at the United States Grand Prix, defeating Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. However, Max Verstappen, the world champion, made an error and will start from sixth place.

In a tight race, Verstappen briefly had the leading position, but he lost the fastest lap time due to going outside the track limits at the second-to-last corner at Circuit of The Americas.

With Verstappen’s time deleted, Leclerc from Ferrari got back the pole position, beating Norris and Hamilton by just over a tenth of a second. This is Leclerc’s third pole position of the season, the most by any driver except Verstappen.

Hamilton is disappointed for not performing well when it mattered the most. However, there is a rare opportunity for him to end his long streak without a win as Mercedes seems to have benefited from a significant upgrade.

Norris was not fast enough to compete for pole position, but he managed to set his fastest lap at the right time to pass Hamilton.

Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz finished fourth, while George Russell finished fifth for Mercedes, despite facing difficulties during the session.

Alpine duo Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon finished in seventh and eighth place respectively. Max Verstappen finished ahead of them, followed by his teammate Sergio Perez in ninth place. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also had a good performance.

The race on Sunday will be exciting. Verstappen has a chance to win his 15th race of the season, which would tie his record from last year.

The Dutchman is on track to achieve several historic milestones after winning his third consecutive drivers’ championship in Qatar. There are still five rounds of the season left.

First, let’s look at Saturday’s Sprint action. The qualifying session and race will be shorter, but they will still provide entertainment for the enthusiastic crowd in Austin. There will be two contests that should be equally competitive.
