Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood is making headlines again, but this time for an unexpected reason. It has been reported that he was spotted at Burger King, indulging in some junk food, which goes against the strict rules set by Getafe, the club he is currently on loan to.
According to a report from The Sun, Greenwood and his father, Andrew, were seen stopping at a Burger King after a training session at Getafe’s base in Madrid. This act could potentially invite the wrath of head coach Jose Bordalas, as all players are prohibited from consuming junk food, and their weight is carefully monitored on a daily basis. Players who report for club duties overweight usually face fines.
Despite this incident, Greenwood was still selected to play in Getafe’s latest La Liga outing against Real Betis. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Greenwood playing a significant role by featuring for 78 minutes before being substituted for Oscar Rodriguez. Borja Mayoral’s 17th-minute goal canceled out Marc Roca’s surprising first-minute opener.
It is worth mentioning that Manchester United decided to loan Greenwood to Getafe during the summer transfer window. This decision came after a six-month internal investigation into his off-pitch behavior. Previously, Greenwood had faced suspension by United due to an arrest on suspicion of attempted rape and assault. However, all charges against him were dropped in February.
Now, Greenwood is striving to reignite his career in Spain. His journey at Getafe has already seen him make six La Liga appearances, where he has contributed with one goal and one assist. The young forward will have another chance to showcase his skills when Getafe takes on Mallorca on October 28.
It remains to be seen how Greenwood’s recent fast-food escapade will affect his standing with Getafe’s coaching staff. Will he face any repercussions for breaking the rules, or will his on-pitch performances outweigh any disciplinary concerns? For now, it is yet another chapter in the eventful career of Mason Greenwood.
