United States Grand Prix: Max Verstappen holds off Lewis Hamilton to claim record-equalling 15th win of season

Max Verstappen secures his 50th Formula 1 victory, holding off Lewis Hamilton. The Red Bull driver matches his own record of 15 wins in a season and sets a new points record with this win. Lando Norris finishes third for McLaren after taking the lead at the start.

Max Verstappen won the United States Grand Prix, matching his own record of 15 race victories in a Formula 1 season.

Verstappen, who has already won his third consecutive championship with five races remaining, seemed to be comfortably heading towards victory after starting in sixth place and taking the lead halfway through the race.

However, Verstappen had some braking problems on his Red Bull car, which made him feel agitated and vulnerable. Despite this, Hamilton managed to close the gap and was only two seconds behind Verstappen towards the end of the race. However, Verstappen held on and secured his 50th career victory in Formula 1.

Hamilton had already overtaken Lando Norris’s McLaren. Norris lost momentum in the second half of the race after initially leading on the first lap. This was a big opportunity for Hamilton to secure his first Formula 1 victory in his 100th race.

Carlos Sainz finished fourth for Ferrari. He and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez overtook pole-sitter Charles Leclerc towards the end. However, Leclerc dropped back as Ferrari tried a risky one-stop strategy.

George Russell finished seventh in the race, unable to match the pace of his teammate Lewis Hamilton after dropping from fifth place at the start.

Pierre Gasly finished in eighth place, while his teammate Esteban Ocon and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri had to retire early due to a collision on the first lap.

Lance Stroll finished ninth in the Grand Prix and earned his first points since July. Fernando Alonso couldn’t finish the race due to floor damage. Yuki Tsunoda secured the final point for AlphaTauri and also set the fastest lap of the race, doubling his points tally for the day.

Verstappen’s win gives him 466 points this season, surpassing his previous record. He is poised to make history in the remaining four rounds of the campaign.

His lead over teammate Perez is now 228 points. Meanwhile, Hamilton has closed the gap to just 21 points behind Perez. This puts Hamilton in a strong position to prevent Red Bull from achieving a one-two finish in the drivers’ standings.
