Goals from Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah secure a comfortable 3-0 victory for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest. Jota also honors Luis Diaz after learning about his parents’ abduction in Colombia.
Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at Anfield. Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah scored for Liverpool. This victory reduced the gap between Liverpool and Tottenham to three points.
Jota scored a goal in the first half and showed solidarity with Luis Diaz. He held up Diaz’s shirt after hearing the news of his parents’ kidnapping in Colombia.
Nunez scored Liverpool’s second goal, which was well-worked. He turned home Szoboszlai’s cut-back after being played in by Salah on the right-hand side of the Forest box.
The Egyptian player scored the third goal in the second half. He took advantage of an error from the Forest goalkeeper, Matt Turner. Turner left his goal area but failed to intercept Szoboszlai’s long pass. Salah seized this opportunity and scored his 10th goal of the season.
Forest had one noteworthy opportunity when Anthony Elanga hit the crossbar towards the end. However, it was never in doubt that Liverpool would win. This victory marked their third consecutive win at Anfield within a week, after the matches against Everton and Toulouse.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “The game and result is very good for us.
“We played in the most difficult circumstance I’ve ever had. It was a really difficult day, which ended with a good result and the best thing we could do for our brother was that we win the game and distract him a little bit maybe.
“After more than 1,000 games you would think you have experienced everything, but no.
“But it’s not about us, it’s about Lucho and his family, and we all pray and hope that everything will be fine.
“What we can do, we will do, we’ve done already in the club and the only thing we could do today was fight for their brother – and that’s what they did.”
It was a great day for Liverpool’s attacking trio, with Dominik Szoboszlai standing out as their star player.
The 23-year-old is impressing in the Premier League this season. His performance at Anfield on Sunday showed how much he is contributing to Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Szoboszlai has become the team’s main source of creativity, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Kieran Trippier, and James Maddison. He has created more chances than Trent Alexander-Arnold in the Premier League this season and provided two assists against Forest.
Liverpool will play against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday.
