Vinicius Junior: Real Madrid forward signs new deal at Spanish club until 2027

Vinicius Junior extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2027. He has faced racism during his time in Spain. In 2023, he received the Socrates Award at the Ballon D’Or ceremony for his humanitarian work.

Vinicius Junior has agreed to extend his contract with Real Madrid until 2027.

The Brazilian winger is highly talented in Spanish football, scoring 45 goals across the last two seasons while playing for Real Madrid for five years.

The 23-year-old has experienced racist abuse several times. One notable incident occurred in May during Real’s match against Valencia. The game was paused for 10 minutes in the second half as Vinicius pointed out fans who had been abusing him.

After the match, Real Madrid reported the abuse they experienced at Valencia as a “hate crime”. Vinicius, a player from Real Madrid, stated that racism is common in LaLiga and that Brazil perceives Spain as a country of racists.

La’s president Javier Tebas apologized to Vinicius after suggesting on social media that the forward was being manipulated following his complaint about the abuse he received from Valencia fans.

The abuse has continued this season. Last week, a Sevilla fan was removed from the match against Real Madrid after allegedly making racist comments towards Vinicius. Vinicius praised the club for acting quickly and mentioned that this was the 19th time he had experienced racial abuse.

LaLiga is looking into reports of racist insults aimed at Vinicius during the El Clasico match on Saturday at Barcelona’s Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium.

Vinicius is accused of being abused when he was substituted in the second half of Real’s 2-1 victory over their rivals.

“LaLiga has been working from the outset to identify the individuals involved in making racist insults and will file the relevant charges as is always the case,” the league said. “We are in direct contact with the police and FC Barcelona.”

On Monday, Vinicius received the Socrates Award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony for his humanitarian work in 2023. He vowed to keep fighting against racism in his winning speech.

“I will remain strong in the fight against racism,” said Vinicius. “It is a very sad thing to talk about racism nowadays, but we have to continue in the fight so that people suffer less.

“I’m very happy to receive this award and to help many children in Brazil. I had little chance of getting where I have coming from where I came so it is a pleasure for me to help as many kid as I can so they can have a chance.”
