Rodrygo renews his contract with Real Madrid until 2028

Real Madrid have recently announced the official contract extension of Rodrygo Goes until June 30, 2028. The talented Brazilian striker has committed to three additional seasons, prolonging his contract which was originally set to expire in 2025. This renewal follows closely on the heels of Vinicius Junior’s contract extension, which secures his position at the Bernabeu until 2027.

The acquisition of Rodrygo by Real Madrid took place in 2018, with the club investing 45 million euros in acquiring the young talent from Santos. This move served as another testament to Real Madrid’s interest in emerging Brazilian players, following their successful acquisition of Vinicius. It didn’t take long for both players to establish themselves as starters on the first team, becoming pivotal figures in Real Madrid’s future plans, as demonstrated by their recent contract renewals.

Although Rodrygo officially joined the club in 2019 after coming of age, he first spent a brief period adapting to the Real Madrid system with Castilla, the club’s reserve team. During this time, he played three games and showcased his abilities by scoring two goals. Shortly thereafter, he made his debut with the first team on matchday six of the 2019-2020 League, making an immediate impact by scoring a goal just moments after coming onto the field against Osasuna. By the end of that season, Rodrygo had amassed 26 appearances and seven goals.

However, it was in the following season, the 2021-2022 campaign, where Rodrygo truly emerged as a star player for Real Madrid. Despite not being a constant starter, he played a vital role in the club’s triumph in the Fourteenth European Cup, particularly due to his exceptional performance with a brace of goals against Manchester City in the second leg of the semi-finals. Rodrygo ended that season with 49 appearances and nine goals, a tally that he surpassed in the 2022-2023 season as he solidified his place as a regular starter alongside Karim Benzema and Vinicius. During that season, he featured in an impressive 57 matches and found the net on 19 occasions.

In the current season, Rodrygo has scored only two goals so far, one against Athletic and another against Braga. Nevertheless, Real Madrid has remained resolute in their desire to extend the contract of this talented Brazilian international. Rodrygo made his debut for the Brazilian national team in 2019 and was part of the squad that represented his country in the World Cup held in Qatar. His performances on the big stage have garnered attention and he continues to develop his skills and potential at Real Madrid. The future looks promising for this young striker as he aims to make a lasting impact for both club and country.
