Borussia Dortmund 0-4 Bayern Munich: Harry Kane scores hat-trick in Der Klassiker to reach 15 Bundesliga goals

Harry Kane scored three goals in his first appearance in Der Klassiker, helping Bayern Munich win 4-0 against Borussia Dortmund.

Signal-Iduna Park was surprised when Dayot Upamecano scored for Bayern in just four minutes. Kane added another goal shortly after. In the second half, the striker scored two more goals, completing his hat-trick. This ended Dortmund’s unbeaten start in the Bundesliga season and narrowed the gap to Bayer Leverkusen, the league leaders, to two points.

It was a confident response by Thomas Tuchel’s team to their cup exit against Saarbrucken. Donyell Malen missed a chance, but Bayern were the better team and deserved the win.

For Dortmund, who missed their chance to win the title in the last season’s final day, it seems highly unlikely to come close again based on this evidence. Jude Bellingham has left, and now another England player is making a significant impact for their main rivals.

Dortmund entered the Klassiker hoping to move ahead of Bayern in the Bundesliga table. However, they had doubts about their ability to win this game, as they had lost eight out of the last nine meetings. The beginning of the match did not alleviate these concerns.

Upamecano scored a header from Sane’s corner, Kane scored shortly after with a tap-in assisted by Sane. It may seem easy, but this finish was impressive.

Everything was easy for Bayern. Their fans enjoyed themselves in the Dortmund stadium, despite the efforts of the Yellow Wall with 25,000 supporters urging them on. There was a clear difference in skill and composure.

Bayern looked calm. Leverkusen’s victory at Hoffenheim earlier in the day widened the gap to five points, and there seemed to be pressure on Tuchel after their worrying defeat earlier in the week. But it didn’t show. They had the chance to make Dortmund’s situation worse after halftime.

Jamal Musiala and Noussair Mazraoui missed chances to score, and Sane could have done better on counter-attacks. This gave Dortmund some hope.

Marco Reus had two good moments. He forced a smart stop by Manuel Neuer and then headed over. But they were wide open at the back. Kane set up Musiala to put the ball in the net, but the offside flag went up. He didn’t have to wait long for the third.

That happened when Kingsley Coman found space on the right. He crossed the ball and Kane scored his second goal of the game. In stoppage time, Kane scored again, completing his hat-trick. It was his 15th goal of the Bundesliga season, which is a record for the competition after 10 games.

Borussia Dortmund will play against Newcastle at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday at 5.45pm. Their next league match is against Stuttgart on November 11 at 2.30pm.

Bayern Munich will host Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday night at 8pm. Heidenheim will then make their first ever Bundesliga trip to the Allianz Arena next Saturday at 2.30pm.
