Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez: Man Utd duo not expected to return from injury before Christmas, says Erik ten Hag

Utd midfielder Casemiro sustained a hamstring injury in the 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat by Newcastle, while defender Lisandro Martinez is recovering from foot surgery. According to Erik ten Hag, both players have significant injuries and he does not anticipate their return before Christmas.

Injured players Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez will not play for Manchester United until after Christmas, according to Erik ten Hag.

Casemiro suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle last week, while Martinez is healing from surgery on a recurring foot issue. This news implies that they may be absent for up to 10 matches in various competitions.

The Brazil and Argentina players were already injured for a long time, along with Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, and Amad Diallo. Jadon Sancho is also unavailable for disciplinary reasons.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to FC Copenhagen, Ten Hag said of his injured players: “I have some time schedules, but it’s always difficult to expect that because they can have setbacks during rehab periods.

“Casemiro and Martinez are really strong injuries, I don’t expect them back before Christmas.”

Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire’s fitness for the Group A match at Parken Stadium. Both players are ready to play.

Rashford couldn’t play on Saturday’s Premier League match against Fulham because of a minor injury. Maguire, on the other hand, played the entire game but had to go through concussion protocols after receiving a blow to the head.

“Marcus is 100 per cent ready,” Ten Hag said.

“Harry did all the protocols during the game and after the game. He is ready to play.”

United hope that the return of the pair can help them continue their improvement. They struggled to beat Copenhagen at home, but this victory follows their defeats against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the opening matches of Group A.

“They played a very decent game and I thought we didn’t play a good game,” Ten Hag added.

“But, still, we won. I think it was a deserved win but we have to do things better.

“We are aware of that because you have to lift the performance if you want to get the result in.”

lack of consistency this season has been worsened by injuries to key players. However, Ten Hag believes that results will improve once these players return.

“So far, we’ve had to change a lot,” he said. “The midfield balance is also not there. I’m sure once we get there, we’ll play better.”
