Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has had a challenging start to his career at Old Trafford. Since his £55 million transfer from Chelsea in the summer, Mount has been limited to just 12 appearances, with most of them coming off the bench. Unfortunately, his time on the pitch has been marred by injuries, and he now faces another setback.
Mount’s latest injury is a calf injury, which will keep him out of action for an extended period of time. This comes as a blow to both the player and his manager, Erik ten Hag, who is already grappling with an injury crisis at the club. Mount’s absence will be felt keenly in upcoming key fixtures, including a crucial Champions League game against Galatasaray and a highly-anticipated reunion with his former club, Chelsea, on December 6.
Speaking to United’s official media, Ten Hag expressed his concern about the injury, stating that they need to assess Mount’s availability for the upcoming game. With Mount’s absence, the manager will now have to devise a new game plan, considering the growing list of sidelined players, including Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo, and Tyrell Malacia.
Mount’s inability to find the back of the net for Manchester United this season is another source of frustration. Despite his talent and potential, the 24-year-old has yet to score in 2023, with his only assist for the Red Devils coming in the League Cup back in September. It is undoubtedly a disappointing start for Mount, who will now have to focus on recovery and regaining his form once he returns to full fitness.
The timing of Mount’s injury is particularly unfortunate, as Manchester United is facing a busy schedule that includes three games within a week. This puts additional pressure on Ten Hag to find suitable alternatives and navigate through the challenges posed by the mounting injuries.
