Donny van de Beek set to leave Manchester United in transfer window

Erik ten Hag, the former manager of Donny van de Beek during their time at Ajax, has recently made a significant statement regarding the player’s future at Manchester United. Ten Hag has opened the door for Van de Beek’s potential departure from the club during the upcoming January transfer window. This news comes as no surprise, considering the Dutch midfielder’s lack of playing time and struggles to make an impact since his move to Old Trafford.

Van de Beek’s time at United has been rather disappointing thus far. The 26-year-old has only managed to accumulate a mere 21 minutes of playing time this season, a statistic that reflects his limited opportunities on the pitch. In fact, Donny Van de Beek was even left out of United’s Champions League squad, further highlighting his current predicament.

In a recent interview, Ten Hag expressed his belief that Van de Beek needs to play regularly in order to progress in his career. He emphasized the importance of providing the playmaker with perspective and opportunities to showcase his abilities. The manager acknowledged that the start of the season was difficult for Van de Beek due to physical setbacks, but he noted that the player has since recovered and is performing well in training.

Understandably, if Manchester United cannot offer Van de Beek the necessary playing time and prospects, it is only natural for the talented midfielder to seek a move elsewhere. With the January transfer window on the horizon, it will be interesting to see if any clubs express an interest in securing the services of the Dutch international.

It’s worth mentioning that Van de Beek’s tenure at United has been characterized by limited starts and sporadic appearances. Since his £40 million transfer from Ajax in September 2020, the midfielder has featured in a total of 62 matches, with only 23 of those being starts. In the Premier League, he has been given the opportunity to showcase his skills on just six occasions. This lack of consistent game time has led to his loan move to Everton in January 2022.

In addition to Van de Beek, Manchester United seem poised to part ways with Jadon Sancho as well. The English winger has faced an extended period away from the first team and has not made an appearance since August 26. Sancho publicly accused Erik ten Hag of lying about his exclusion from the matchday squad for the game against Arsenal on September 3. With both Van de Beek and Sancho potentially departing, it appears that Manchester United is willing to make changes to their squad in the upcoming transfer window. The months ahead will be crucial for both players as they seek to reignite their careers and find new opportunities for development and success.
