Liverpool vs Man Utd: Reds set to have record Anfield attendance against Manchester United on Sunday

Liverpool Football Club is gearing up for an incredible weekend as they expect a staggering attendance of 57,000 fans for their highly anticipated clash against Manchester United. The club is on the brink of completing their impressive Anfield Road Stand upgrade, which will contribute to creating a truly inspiring atmosphere for the game.

To ensure the safety and readiness of the new stand, a test event has been scheduled for Monday evening. Excitement is building as over 7,500 supporters are expected to attend. This special occasion will feature a LFC Foundation mini-game and a captivating question-and-answer session with none other than the iconic manager, Jurgen Klopp himself. It’s an unprecedented opportunity for fans to get closer to the club they love.

Should the test event go according to plan, Liverpool will be able to open 7,000 seats in the upper tier for the highly anticipated match against their arch-rivals. This will leave space for approximately 2,000 hospitality guests, with some minor work on the lower tier planned for completion next month. Once finished, this will bring the stadium’s capacity to a remarkable 61,000.

These developments hold significant importance for Liverpool Football Club, as this Premier League encounter is set to break records. Although the current top-flight game attendance record for the club stands at 58,757 fans, set back in 1949, the 57,000 expected attendance for the Manchester United match is poised to become the largest home crowd for a Premier League game in Liverpool’s history.

The process of upgrading the Anfield Road Stand has been far from straightforward. Originally planned to be completed at the start of the season, unexpected delays arose due to complications with contractors Buckingham Group, who unfortunately went into administration. As a result, the reopening of the stand has been carried out in phases, with only the lower tier in operation up until now.

Paul Cuttill, the Vice President of Stadium Operations, expressed the challenges faced during this complex project. He shared, “It’s been really challenging. Our priority was to get fans back into the stadium as soon as possible safely. Billy Hogan, the chief executive, said back in October that it would likely be 2024 before we would open, so to get ahead of that for the Man United game is a bit of an early Christmas present.”

However, this achievement did come at a cost – not just financially, but in terms of the time it has taken. Bringing in supporters earlier than expected has proved beneficial, but a comprehensive assessment of the project’s true expenses will only be possible once a thorough program is established towards the end of the season.

As Liverpool Football Club prepares to host a record-breaking crowd, the spirit and dedication exhibited by everyone involved in the Anfield Road Stand upgrade are undoubtedly reflected in the anticipation surrounding this monumental occasion. The support and enthusiasm of the fans, combined with the grandeur of the stadium, promise to create an unforgettable experience for all who have the privilege of witnessing this historic match.
