The injury woes for Colombian wing-back Juan Cuadrado continue to plague his career as he faces the prospect of undergoing surgery for his Achilles tendon. This Achilles tendon problem has been a persistent issue for Cuadrado, hindering his ability to perform at his best for Inter, the club he joined from Juventus during the summer transfer window.
Piero Ausilio, the sporting director of Inter, confirmed that Cuadrado will indeed have to undergo surgery in the coming week to address this long-standing injury. It is a disappointing setback for the player who had hoped to make a strong impression at his new club.
After featuring as a substitute in the first three matchdays, Cuadrado’s season took an unfortunate turn while on international duty with the Colombian national team. He returned from the international break with an injury, which sidelined him for six consecutive games. Despite a brief return to action on October 7, Cuadrado was unable to fully recover.
Unfortunately, the injury woes persisted, and Cuadrado was forced to miss another six games. It appeared that he had finally returned to normalcy on November 26 when he played five games in a row, even starting in the Champions League match against Real Sociedad. However, after exploring various conservative treatment options, it was determined that surgery was the necessary course of action to resolve his ongoing problem.
Cuadrado is set to travel to Finland for the surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action for a minimum of three months. This lengthy absence poses a significant challenge for Inter, who will need to strengthen their defense during the winter transfer window to compensate for his absence.
“The tendon’s condition prevented Cuadrado from reaching full fitness. Despite our best efforts with conservative treatments, surgery is now the only viable option,” explained Ausilio. This unexpected situation has prompted discussions between Ausilio, coach Simone Inzaghi, and CEO Giuseppe Marotta to assess how best to address this unexpected setback. Ausilio further commented, “If it weren’t for Cuadrado’s injury, we wouldn’t have considered entering the January transfer market.”
The road to recovery can be arduous, but with proper medical attention and rehabilitation, Cuadrado will aim to make a successful comeback to the field. In the meantime, Inter will have to navigate their upcoming fixtures without the services of the talented Colombian, keeping a watchful eye on the transfer market to find a suitable reinforcement for their defense.
