Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is keen on returning to the Premier League, just six months after making a move to Saudi Arabia.

Jordan Henderson, the former Liverpool captain, has expressed his desire to make a return to the Premier League, indicating his keenness to depart from his current club, Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. This noteworthy development comes six months after his controversial move to the Saudi club, which sparked widespread criticism at the time. Henderson’s decision to leave Merseyside for Al Ettifaq in the summer raised eyebrows, further amplified by the significant attention on the high cost associated with his contract, potentially posing a barrier to any potential transfer in the upcoming January window.

The England midfielder’s high-profile transfer to Al Ettifaq in July was marked by his reunion with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard, who had assumed the role of manager at Al Ettifaq just a few weeks prior. This move, reportedly valued at around £13m, also involved a staggering weekly wage of approximately £350,000 for the 33-year-old midfielder.

On the pitch, the performance of Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League has been inconsistent, with the team failing to secure a victory since late October. Presently, they find themselves in a challenging position, positioned in eighth place, trailing the league leaders, Al Hilal, by a substantial 28-point margin.

It has been made known that Henderson has not settled at Al Ettifaq, prompting his exploration of alternative options. However, any potential move for the midfielder would need to be agreeable to all involved parties. Further adding to the context, the recent departure of assistant manager Ian Foster from Al Ettifaq, who subsequently assumed the managerial role at Championship side Plymouth Argyle, adds another layer of flux to the situation.
