Charles Leclerc has signed a new contract with Ferrari, extending his tenure with the team beyond the 2024 Formula 1 season.

Charles Leclerc has recently inked a contract extension with Ferrari, solidifying his position with the team well beyond the 2024 Formula 1 season. While official details regarding the length of Leclerc’s new deal have not been publicly disclosed by Ferrari, reports from Italian media had previously suggested that the extension could stretch until 2029. However, Ferrari’s statement made on Thursday simply confirmed that the 26-year-old Monegasque driver would continue with the team “beyond the 2024 season”.

Having joined Ferrari in 2019 following his debut F1 campaign with Sauber, Leclerc has amassed an impressive track record, securing 23 pole positions and achieving five victories. Despite these accomplishments, he has yet to mount a sustained title challenge, with his best finish in the drivers’ standings being second place in 2022. Last season saw Leclerc attain a career-best second place in the drivers’ standings while claiming five podiums, yet he was unable to clinch a win.

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur underlined the significance of Leclerc’s connection to the Scuderia, emphasizing that the bond between Leclerc and the team transcends that of a mere driver and his team. Vasseur highlighted Leclerc’s longstanding relationship with the Ferrari family spanning eight years, reflecting shared values and culminating in the decision to extend their collaboration.

On a related note, Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz is currently engaged in discussions regarding a new contract, as his existing one is set to expire at the end of this year. The timing of Leclerc’s contract extension announcement is noteworthy, aligning with Ferrari’s plans to unveil their 2024 car on February 13.
