Arsenal has ended transfer speculation by securing Japan star Takehiro Tomiyasu with a new long-term contract.

The latest reports from Fabrizio Romano have revealed that Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has reached an agreement with the club for a new deal, and an official announcement is said to be “imminent.” According to Romano, both the club and head coach Mikel Arteta have always been keen on retaining the services of the Japan international, and there have been no internal discussions regarding his departure. The report states that “everything is ready” for the announcement of Tomiyasu’s new deal, indicating that the player has accepted the terms offered by Arsenal. Moreover, interested parties have been informed that there is “no chance” that Tomiyasu will be allowed to leave the club, firmly cementing his future with the Gunners.

Tomiyasu, who joined the Premier League side from Serie A’s Bologna in the summer of 2021, has faced challenges with injuries since his arrival in England. However, despite these setbacks, he has displayed remarkable consistency on the field for Arsenal. His recent absence from action in December due to a calf issue, followed by representing Japan in the Asian Cup after his recovery, underscores his commitment and value to both club and country. With Japan now out of the Asian Cup, Tomiyasu is expected to return to action with Arsenal in the near future.

The Japanese defender’s impressive performances have garnered attention, with Bayern Munich reportedly showing interest in acquiring his services last summer. However, Arsenal’s strong stance on retaining Tomiyasu led to no further developments in the potential transfer. As a recognition of his form and reliability, the club intends to offer him a contract extension. Meanwhile, Bayern’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements ultimately led them to sign Sacha Boey from Galatasaray, after failing to secure a deal for Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United.

Considering Tomiyasu’s recent participation in the Asian Cup, there is a possibility that he may be given a brief period of rest by Arsenal and Arteta, before returning to active duty. This decision could depend on Arteta’s assessment of the team’s needs and Tomiyasu’s fitness. Nonetheless, it is anticipated that Tomiyasu will soon finalize his contract extension with Arsenal, solidifying his long-term commitment to the club and providing further stability to the Gunners’ defensive line.
