Nelly Korda extended her impressive run by defeating Leona Maguire in the LPGA final at the T-Mobile Match Play

Nelly Korda claimed a remarkable victory at the T-Mobile Match Play at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, securing her fourth consecutive win on the LPGA Tour. The 25-year-old American showcased her dominance, winning four of the first seven holes to defeat Ireland’s Leona Maguire with a score of 4&3.

As the world’s number one ranked player, Korda’s achievement of winning four straight tournaments is a historic feat, unmatched since Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa accomplished the same in 2008. Reflecting on her extraordinary performance, Korda expressed her disbelief, stating, “I can’t even wrap my head around it.” She described the past three weeks as a whirlwind, indicating that she was constantly in go-mode.

Despite Maguire’s resilience in claiming the 13th and 14th holes, Korda maintained her composure and secured victory with a par win on the 15th. Acknowledging her opponent’s competitive spirit, Korda noted, “It’s Leona. She’s such a fiery competitor. I knew when I lost those two holes in a row, 13 and 14, that I really needed to put my foot down to finish the match off.”

This year’s tournament format underwent a significant change, with three days of strokeplay preceding the weekend matchplay for the top eight contenders. Korda’s journey to victory included impressive wins over Angel Yin and Na-Rin An, while Maguire surpassed Moriya Jutanugarn and Sei-young Kim to reach the final.

Nelly Korda’s recent triumph adds to her successes at the Drive On Championship, Los Angeles Open, and Arizona Championship. With her sights set on the season’s first major, the Chevron Championship outside Houston, Korda aims to equal the record of five consecutive victories, a feat achieved by American Nancy Lopez in 1978 and matched by Sweden’s Annika Sorenstam in 2004-05. Her relentless pursuit of excellence continues to captivate the world of golf as she strives for further glory in the sport.
