Laporta is considering replacing the Barcelona boss, xavi despite a recent contract U-turn

As Barcelona looks to secure a second-place finish in La Liga, Xavi’s immediate focus will be on the remaining fixtures of the season. The team is set to face Rayo Vallecano on May 19, followed by a final match against Sevilla on May 25. The outcome of these matches could play a pivotal role in determining Xavi’s future with the club. As the season draws to a close, discussions between Xavi, Laporta, and the board will likely intensify, with the potential for significant changes if results do not meet expectations.

The recent tensions between Xavi and the Barcelona hierarchy have cast a shadow over his position as head coach. His comments prior to facing Almeria have reportedly displeased the club’s leadership, leading to speculation about his potential sacking. Xavi’s admitted skepticism about Barcelona’s ability to compete for major silverware and his acknowledgment of the challenging economic situation have raised concerns among the board members, particularly President Joan Laporta.

When asked if Barcelona could compete for major silverware with their current squad, Xavi responded with noticeable scepticism.

“We are going to try to compete against Madrid. I think that the cule must understand that the situation is very difficult,” he had said.

“Above all, on an economic level. We have an economic situation that has nothing to do with 25 years ago, we can no longer go out and pick and say ‘I want this one, this one, and that one.’ We are not in the same conditions as other clubs with very advantageous economic situations.

“The Barcelona fans have to understand it. That does not mean that we do not want to compete, but that is Barca’s situation at the moment. We need stability and time, but we will try to compete.”

Laporta and Xavi appeared to have reached a resolution just 23 days ago, with a joint press conference announcing the manager’s commitment to honor his contract and not sever ties with the club at the end of the campaign. However, it seems that Xavi’s recent statements have strained this agreement. The board perceives a contradiction between Xavi’s recent comments and the confident narrative he had previously conveyed, which had influenced their decision to retain him as head coach.

Furthermore, there is a sense of disappointment regarding the utilization of new signings, with the board feeling that Xavi has not maximized the potential of the strengthened squad. Despite the uproar, Xavi maintained his composure after the match against Almeria, expressing his excitement about planning for the next season alongside sporting director Deco and reaffirming the ambition to win titles.

With the upcoming crucial fixtures, including the match against Rayo Vallecano and the final encounter against Sevilla, the stakes are high for Xavi. The results of these matches could significantly influence the discussions and decisions regarding Xavi’s future at the club. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days, with the potential for notable developments based on the team’s performance and subsequent deliberations among the key stakeholders.
