The Philadelphia 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey has been honored with the prestigious 2023-24 NBA Sportsmanship Award

The Joe Dumars Trophy is a prestigious NBA award presented annually to the player who best embodies the spirit of sportsmanship on the basketball court. This honor is a testament to an individual’s commitment to fair play, respect for the game, and integrity in competition.

In the 2023-24 NBA season, the Philadelphia 76ers’ talented guard, Tyrese Maxey, was bestowed with the Joe Dumars Trophy, earning the esteemed title of the NBA Sportsmanship Award winner. This marks Maxey’s first time receiving this recognition, further solidifying his exemplary conduct on and off the court. Notably, Maxey joins the esteemed ranks of Eric Snow (1999-00) as the second player in 76ers history to claim this honor.

Named after the legendary Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion, Joe Dumars, the NBA Sportsmanship Award holds a special place in the league’s tradition. Dumars, renowned for his sportsmanship, leadership, and unwavering dedication, set the standard for this accolade during his illustrious 14-year career with the Detroit Pistons.

The selection process for the NBA Sportsmanship Award involves each of the 30 NBA teams nominating one of their players. From this pool of nominees, a panel of league executives carefully identifies one finalist from each of the NBA’s six divisions. Finally, the winner is chosen by current NBA players from the list of six exceptional finalists, a testament to Maxey’s high standing among his peers.

Maxey, a skilled NBA professional with four years of experience, not only secured the NBA Sportsmanship Award but also made a significant impact on the court during the 2023-24 regular season. His outstanding performance led to him clinching the Kia NBA Most Improved Player Award and earning his inaugural NBA All-Star selection, reflecting his remarkable growth and contributions to the sport.
