Aston Villa’s manager Unai Emery has recently committed to a fresh, extended five-year contract with the club, following their successful qualification for the upcoming Champions League season.
Since his arrival from Villarreal in October 2022, the 52-year-old Spaniard has orchestrated a remarkable transformation for Villa, who were languishing in 17th place in the Premier League at the time. Under his guidance, the team achieved a commendable seventh-place finish in his inaugural season at the helm, and impressively secured the fourth spot in the current campaign. Emery expressed his immense delight about the new chapter, stating, “I am truly thrilled to take on this new role and assume the responsibility of guiding this esteemed club forward.”
Despite still having three years remaining on his existing contract, he emphasized the wonderful chemistry at Aston Villa, attributing it to the invaluable support of the fans, which has made the environment feel like home. His enthusiasm was palpable as he conveyed, “We are incredibly eager to embark on this ongoing journey with boundless aspirations.”
Notably, Emery, who previously managed Sevilla and Arsenal, steered Villa, the victors of the 1982 European Cup, to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League this season, marking their return to European competition after a hiatus of 13 years. Chairman Nassef Sawiris conveyed his enthusiasm about the club’s trajectory under Unai’s leadership, remarking, “We are crafting something extraordinary here at Aston Villa, with Unai at the heart of it, and we are elated that he has extended his commitment to the club until 2029. As we approach our momentous 150th anniversary, there is much to anticipate with Unai at the helm.”
